So I just finished my tax returns for this year, and boy, was it a nightmare. I have done tax returns several times before, and they were never nearly as bad as this year. I think it was a combination of being utterly confused by some new things in addition to my inabilities to calculate numbers correctly sometimes that contributed to my frustrations. Plus moving around last year and having some boggling fields I've never seen before come up made me go, "wtf?"
I actually started it 3 or so weeks ago, and was getting through it pretty nicely until I came to a section where magically my amount went from me getting a fair amount to me owing a huge amount. At that point, I tucked the return into the recesses of my brain to ferment. After constant nagging and the inevitable scare of being audited, I had no choice tonight but to ask my mom for guidance. She is a great woman, and is especially good with money, but we don't exactly see eye-to-eye sometimes. So after spending a good 2 hours of working on the sheets, understanding them, and some occassional "misunderstandings", finally I was able to submit my Federal and State taxes. Needless to say it was still a very painful process. Makes me glad that I only have to do it once a year. But thank you mom, although it wasn't pretty, because without you, I'd probably be sucking my thumb rocking in a corner, clutching my w-2s in my white-knuckled palm.
